CALL ALEJO TODAY TO KEEP DRIVER’S LICENSES CLEAN & SAFE FOR ALL!

Assemblymember Alejo wants to amend AB 60 - the Safe and Responsible Driver Act - to include language for driver’s licenses to have a marking, which would indicate individual’s statuses. We need to pressure him to keep the bill clean and ensure that all drivers have access to licenses that do not discriminate!

CAN YOU CALL HIS OFFICE TODAY AND TELL HIM TO KEEP LICENSES UNMARKED?

Capitol Office: (916) 319-2030

Salinas Office: (831) 759-8676

Hollister Office: (831) 638-3228

Watsonville Office: (831) 761-7428

Sample Script:

“Hi, my name is _____________ and I am [a resident of your district] calling to ask the Assemblymember to NOT amend AB 60 to include language for a marked license. A marked license would endanger people to discrimination and risk for detention and deportation. CA is long due for driver’s licenses for all, but we must do it in a fair and accessible way. Please keep AB 60 as it is currently drafted - licenses with no markings.”

Thanks

Everyone in California please make some time to make a quick call! It only takes a second and its to ensure we don’t get marked licenses!

I never knew the quantity of undocumented folks on Tumblr until I gave a quick glance at the DACA tag.

Looking through I saw that many people have been waiting for more than 5 months. That’s where this comes in!

So USCIS never said that DACA werkpermits were any different from regular work permits. Therefore your DACA is the same as everyone else’s work permits and by that I mean the rules established for these permits apply to DACA.

That’s why if you’ve waited for more than 75 and haven’t heard from or received anything from USCIS, make sure to do the steps listed on the website above!

A couple of my friends from the IEIYC did this and a week after they submitted a request they got their permit.

UPDATE: Fabiana has been transferred a third time. She is now being held at Irwin Detention Center in Ocilla, GA. According to ICE, a previous deportation from 2003 is enough to keep her detained. Despite the fact that Fabiana is a youth minister who has dedicated her whole life to mentoring youth and is an exceptional member of the community, she faces imminent deportation. Help get Fabiana released and back home to her husband and church community!

The Friends of Adelanto Detainees program is looking for new friends to be visitors. Your participation can help touch the life of someone who is in complete isolation otherwise. As a Friend we ask that you:

  • COMPLETE TRAINING; being a visitor can be difficult. We ask that you attend the visitor training to get information about what it means to be a visitor, along with expectations, listener training, and the opportunity to meet with other visitors.
  • BE THERE; show up for your visits when you sign up for them, or contact the visitor coordinator if you have to cancel.
  • BE CONSISTENT; our detainees are in extremely isolated conditions, they are grateful for the time you dedicate, and look forward to seeing Friends on a consistent basis.
  • BE A GOOD LISTENER; it’s important to practice listening skills, as a Friend our main purpose is to be there for and listen to the stories of those detained at Adelanto.
  • VISIT; which is enough. You don’t have to promise anything more.
  • REPORT; report each visit and any issues or concerns to the Program Coordinator.

If you are interested in becoming a Friend and  joining the visitation team please CLICK HERE and fill out the Visitor Questionnaire. Once you fill out the form below you will be contacted about the next scheduled training.

If you have questions please email: FriendsofAdelantoDetainees@gmail.com

THANK YOU for considering visiting!

Inland Empire peeps, please do consider becoming a Friend of Adelanto. Having the biggest Immigration Detention in the West Coast at our backyard is troubling for me.

While we may not be able to do much for those that aren’t lawyers & such, anyone can change a life by visiting a detainee.

Alma Prado, single mother of 4 U.S. citizen children was returning home from taking her children to the doctor’s office for a checkup when her car malfunctioned and was thrust into a minor traffic accident. Cobb County, Georgia sheriffs arrived on the scene and arrested her for two misdemeanors – driving without a license and improper stop.

Despite the fact that Alma as been in the U.S. for 10 years, has U.S. citizen children who will suffer if she is deported, and has no criminal history, ICE has placed a hold on her while her children and she suffer.

Alma is the sole provider and caretaker for her children, ages 18, 15, 9, and 8. Release the ICE hold on Alma Prado and release her to take care of her family immediately.
